Training
The
process of training your pet to their Hidden Fence is key to the
success and enjoyment of your system. Make sure you download the
appropriate training guide for your system and read it completely
before beginning any containment training.
A
few points to be aware of:
- You
can start containment training as young as 10 weeks (Pro Series
PLTL only) and 4 months or 20 pounds (Retail Series). Your collar
will determine which training guide to use. If you aren’t sure,
please call the office.
- Any
new pet to your home needs to be in-house for one to two weeks
before beginning training. Think about it – puppies have just
left their mom and littermates, older dogs may have left the
only home they have known and rescue dogs have had a large amount
of instability. They need that time to adjust to a new environment,
a new schedule and a new yard. Spend that time bonding, but
keep your pet inside the area that will be fenced.
- Your
dog HAS to be leash trained. It is impossible to containment
train a dog that lays down on-leash and won’t move or a dog
that constantly tries to back out of their collar.
- You
must create and maintain a proper collar fit. What is a proper

Do
not begin any containment training with a collar that uses
a 9 volt battery. These collars are not intended for the majority
of dogs and could result in a very negative training experience
for both you and your pet. Please call the office if this
is what you have so that we may assist. |
